Mrs. ManyHats: Mother Teresa

"By blood, I am Albanian. By citizenship, an Indian. By faith, I am a Catholic nun. As to my calling, I belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the heart of Jesus" (Mother Teresa).

A Mrs. ManyHats like none other, Mother Teresa inspires men, women, and children worldwide even since her death in December of 1997. She lived a full life of 87 years.

A few facts about Mother Teresa:

1. She founded the Missionaries of Charity Sisters devoted to serving the poor.

2. She worked in the slums of Calcutta, India while caring for the sick by doing tasks like washing the sores of children.

3. She founded other groups devoted to caring for the poorest of the poor that were not limited strictly to those of religious vocations.

4. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.

Mother Teresa is a compelling example of an individual who served the poor wholeheartedly and with such devotion that individuals still respect and celebrate the life that she lived, even those with differring religious views. She is an example of a woman who truly represented her faith and Jesus well. Mother Teresa is a woman who causes us to think of and appreciate things the things that truly matter in life like: kindness, gentleness, and generosity.

I've found that having and looking toward strong role models (even historical ones) is useful. Doing this causes us to look outside of ourselves and admire what has been accomplished or treasured by another person. In addition, we can be encouraged by their accomplishments and inspired to move toward what we are passionate about in life.
Who encourages your heart?
