MM Monday: Where to Find a Mr. Mister

Good morning! As you can see, a few stylistic improvements have been made to my blog. I've been looking forward to these and am very thankful to have a Mr. Mister who not only can design wonderful logos, but who can get excited about it with me. So, thank you, Mr. Mister.

Speaking of Mr. Mister, today I will reveal where one may find a one of these rare gems of masculinity...

To begin, let’s consider how Mr. Mister comes into the world of his love. First of all, he does not just ride in on a white horse or a motorcycle like the fairy-tales, Disney cartoons, and chick flicks have programmed us to think.

Oh, the caricature of the modern
day Prince Charming...

Instead, Mr. Mister tends to be wherever you currently are, as you flourish in whatever you are pursuing in life. Let’s examine a few of the men categorized as a Mr. Mister from last Monday’s post.

For example...

Emma and Mr. Knightley

Oh the handsome, Mr. George Knightely from Jane Austen’s Emma. Please excuse me while I swoon. He is, perhaps, my favorite Mr. Mister found in literature. Mr. Knightley is a man who does not appear out of the blue. George is a close family friend and confidante of Emma. He serves as a sounding board for her as she embarks upon various failed match-making schemes. In addition, Mr. Knightley offers wisdom-filled advice that, at times, infuriates or breaks Emma's heart. My theory is that his words posses great value to Emma, which is why she responds so strongly to them.

Luke and Lorelai

Oh the wonder that is a plaid wearing, backwards baseball cap sportin', scruffy, mountain man. Luke Danes from the television series “Gilmore Girls” (created & wonderfully written by Amy Sherman Palladino) is a constant in the life of both Lorelai Gilmore & her daughter Rory. Luke is a grumpy diner owner who bickers with Lorelai over her unhealthy eating habits. Yet, he would do anything for her like repair her shoe at an all night dance-athon (pictured here) or place a kiddie pool in her front yard in order to teach her how to go fishing on a date. Although Luke is known for providing the fiercely independent, single mom, and inn owner with her much needed daily jolt of coffee, he also remains a steady friend to Lorelai as she flits from one relationship to another.

Colonel Brandon and Marianne

Colonel Brandon  is another one of Jane Austen’s male leads from her novel Sense & Sensibility. Colonel Brandon is a very kind man who is a close friend of Marianne Dashwood’s family. To be quite honest though, my heart aches for Colonel Brandon as he deeply adores Marianne while she hopelessly pines away for Willoughby in a love stricken and pathetic manner. Marianne is most definitely not my favorite female lead. If given a choice, I'd much rather grab a cup of coffee with her sister Elinor any day of the week. Nevertheless, Colonel Brandon loves Marianne greatly.

Now to my very own Mr. Mister…

As I neared the end of my undergraduate years, I found myself in the midst of a ministry related, volunteer community. I was honored with the opportunity to serve there in a Staff position. Little did I know that the ministry that had become my home was home to Mr. Mister at an earlier point in his life.

In my final year of college, Mr. Mister (who had been living in Dallas) moved back to the area and my boss immediately recruited him to get involved with the volunteer community that I had grown to love. He had been involved there throughout his teenage years and was good friends with most of the other leaders who were on Staff. Mr. Mister joined the Staff and served the community by providing his skills in graphic design and video editing. Seeing as my job was to keep the details organized for upcoming events and such, Mr. Mister and I worked together often.

I remember how attractive, kind, funny, and slightly nerdy he was during those days.

One of our first interactions was over a silly internet meme. We were shutting down the building for the evening when he went to turn down the heat to 55 degrees.

As he turned the heat down Mr. Mister said, “Schfifty-five.”

My response was, “Schiggity Shwa?”

And now you must watch this video to understand how ridiculous we are…

So, what is the point of all of this?

The point is that Mr. Mister was around.

He didn’t just waltz in the door, make eye contact with me, fall on his knees, and passionately ask me to marry him. As we worked alongside of one another and laughed about silly memes, Mr. Mister and I were growing into love with one another.
